Driving down to the end of the cul-de-sac I discovered that two of our neighbors had “for sale” lawn signs on their property down by the road. I was surprised to see that the neighbor whose dog attacked our dog was selling her house. I wished that we had enough money to buy the house and let my mother live there – it is a beautiful location, with a beautiful little pond on the property, and it would be nice to have my mother so close by, especially since she is in her golden years.

My daughter and her husband finally saved up enough money to buy a new house. They have been married for three years and had lived in an apartment the whole time. The day they had the closing and got the keys they had to get the electricity turned on in their names. They went online to ShopElectricityRatesTexas.com to find the best deal that they could find. My son-in-law’s father had told him that was a great place to get electricity. Then they went into the house and decided that they wanted to paint everything before they moved in. We all chipped in over a long weekend and knocked that job out pretty quickly. We also cleaned everything from top to bottom because my daughter is pretty much a germaphobe. Then over the next week, we all helped, when we could, get all the furniture moved in. The next part involved making the curtains. My mom is a great seamstress so she was a big help in getting the curtains made for every room. I think my daughter learned a lot about sewing from her. So now the house is mostly complete. I am really hoping now that they will start thinking about having a baby. I can’t wait for that to happen.

There is nothing more important to a new mom than the safety of her child. I remember when I brought my first baby home from the hospital. I wanted to just sit and stare at him all day and all night. I never wanted him out of my sight because I thought he was just so beautiful but also I was afraid of what might happen if I did let him out of my sight. I thought that if I could see him at all times then he would be safe. Eventually I got over this feeling a little more each day and now I can leave the room without worrying about him every moment I am gone. After we brought him home I decided that our house wasn’t safe enough. For my husband and me it was just fine but now that our new child was here everything needed to change. New deadbolts on the exterior doors, child safety everything, padding on the fireplace was installed even though our son wouldn’t be mobile for at least six more months. I also decided to get Home Security Systems installed to be sure our little bundle was safe in his crib even when I wasn’t watching him.

Sometimes I think that I must have been a Japanese woman in a previous life. I am so drawn to the artful and graceful things that I see that are Japanese in origin. For example, in my mind’s eye I can picture a beautiful Japanese home with rain chains guiding the rain water down from the rooftop into water collection basins.

We have a set of wind chimes outside the window where I keep my computer, and every time they chime I get the sensation of walking through a Japanese garden that is behind a Japanese house. Again, I see water trickling down a rain chain, but this time it is part of a water feature in the garden.

My hubby has told me that we need to be thinking about replacing the down spouts of our rain gutters in the next year or two. I think I’m going to show him some pictures of chains rain on the Internet and see if he thinks maybe we’d like to replace the downspouts with them instead.

Sometimes I just can’t make up my mind whether I like the modern looks of vessel sinks or not. Sometimes I see photographs of them in home fashion magazines and they look very “zen” and I am drawn to their simple and clean lines. And when I go into a public rest room in a restaurant or a hotel and see a
vessel sink in there I think to myself that it looks very classy.

The graceful curve of the bowl, and the graceful arch of the vessel sink faucets scream “luxury” to me in a way I just can’t explain. If I were to move into a very modern house and were renovating my bathroom, I think that I would give serious consideration to installing them in my bathroom. In my current home, though, I’m not sure that the style would look good at all. Sometimes I wish that I could afford to hire an interior decorator!
