One of the things that I like to do at work is to find some reason to compliment the customers. I find that if I can find some reason to make them smile, it makes my day go better too! It really makes me feel good about my job, if I can make the customer smile or laugh.
For example, a lady came in to pick up her prescriptions, and she was wearing a pretty pink scarf. It had been knitted with eyelash yarn, and it was nice and fluffy. I told her that I really liked it, and asked her if she had knitted it herself. She told me that her sister had knitted it for her, in honor of her being in remission from breast cancer! I congratulated her, and we chatted for several minutes. The entire conversation ended in me going around the counter and giving her a big ol’ bear hug and telling her how proud and happy I was to have met her, and congrats on winning the battle!
I liked that, and I think she did too. Some days the news is good news.
