Every Sunday I take the grocery coupons out of the Sunday newspaper and sort them out. I only cut ans ave the ones that I think I will be using within a week or two. The rest I toss out.

It can be hard to keep up with the expiration dates on the coupons. I try to use them every time I go to the store. But sometimes I don’t catch the expiration date in time to use it. That makes me feel bad, as I could have saved the money if I had paid more attention and redeemed the coupon quicker.

There used to be a nice salad that I would buy at Wendy’s that had a piece of grilled chicken on a bed of mixed greens and some mandarin oranges, sliced almonds and a special vinaigrette dressing. It was reasonably priced and I would try to order that at least once a month, as I don’t eat out at fast food places very often.

But last month I drove up to Wendy’s to order that for lunch and they didn’t have it any more. Now they have a selection of designer salads.

That upset me, as I really liked that salad and now there is nothing like it on the Wendy’s menu and not anywhere else that I can find, not even a full service sit down restaurant.

My plan is to start aggressively contributing to a retirement fund when I turn 40. Sure, I have some things already working, like my IRA Accounts. But everything I do until I turn 40 is nominal, just as I can afford it. After 40, I plan to start working with an online broker and pay a lot more attention to what I’m doing.

My sister-in-law works in the banking industry now, but she got started as an administrative assistant for a stock broker’s office. I remember her telling me about the great investment opportunities that would come up, and how the majority of the clients in her office were trading stocks for their retirement.

She told me that I don’t need a local stock broker to make my investment decisions. That if I educate myself and pay attention, that I can do as well for myself with online trading as any of the people that she used to work with.

Shopping at Wal-Mart today, something on the end of an aisle caught my eye. There were huge cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other and a hole was cut from the front of a couple of them. Inside the boxes were bags of marshmallows.

I didn’t give that much notice until a second glance and I realized that these were new, HUGE marshmallows. The plastic bags were extra large and the marshmallows inside were as big as lemons or maybe plums. I have never seen marshmallows this big! I don’t know that I could even eat one whole one – they have to be nothing but sugar.

But to me, it means off season rates and big savings at http://www.myrtlebeachseasideresorts.com/

This is the best time of year to book golf packages Myrtle Beach and get away for a long weekend of swimming and golf in my favorite family beach destination on the the East Coast.

September and October are both great months to go to the beach. The weather is still warm during the day and the water temperature of the Atlantic is still warm enough for swimming.

Go to www.myrtlebeachseasideresorts.com to check for the best rates and make sure you wave if you see me there.

We’ve been Costco members ever since I can remember. They have saved me a whole lot of money over the years, with their discount prices and bulk buying opportunities.

Today I stopped by the Costco to pick up a few things. I even remembered to bring my Costco coupon book. So, as I pushed the big cart down the aisles, I stopped in the dog food and dog treats sections and shopped for a new treat to take home to my fur-babies.

Costco has a coupon to save $3.50 off the club price of a dog treat called, “Nylabone Nubz, Edible Dental Dog Chews.” With the coupon, that makes this treat too good a bargain to pass by.

The Nylabone Nubz is made from real chicken and is even shaped like little chicken drumsticks. According to what I could read, the treats have no added sugar, salt, or preservatives. There are a lot of them in the bag – it looks like this treat bag might last more than a week.

Everyone has been talking about bedbugs the past week or two. All the news outlets are running articles, the morning shows are interviewing people, and the Internet is full of search results about how to get rid of these pests.

Evidently it is very hard to get rid of bedbugs from not only your bed but also any upholstered furniture you have, and even clothing and coats. Today I read a warning about buying bedding or furniture from flea markets, as items from those places have a high likelihood of bringing bedbugs into your home.

This won’t work for bed and large pieces of furniture, but if you happen to have any clothing, stuffed animals, or coats that show signs of a bedbug infestation, you can put that item into a large ziploc bag, and then place the bag into the freezer for 3-4 days. That will kill both any bedbugs and their eggs, as they cannot survive being frozen.

I was reading an article in The Chronicle yesterday about how people who continually update their Education make themselves more valuable employees. In this day and age, when people are so worried about competing in the job market, I think that taking some courses now and then is a good idea.

But many of us have transportation issues, or schedule issues and need to be able to take courses online. Fortunately there are lots of schools that offer online degrees. One of those, Walden University offers a degree in Communications, which is something I’ve always been interested in. I’ll have to check and see if my company has tuition reimbursement benefits for their employees! Getting a college education with someone else’s money is a good thing!
