Do you remember a time when if someone told you to “stick it in your ear” it was supposed to be an insult? Recently my hubby gave me a pair of in ear buds to use when I’m listening to music while I’m sitting at the computer, but I have always had trouble keeping things like that in my ears. My doctor has told me that I have the smallest ear canals he has ever seen in an adult, and because of that he says that it is amazing that I can even hear!

At least now I don’t feel quite so bad when I ask people to repeat themselves – the doctor has given me a very good reason for not being able to hear very well!

When I first heard about using dryer balls to reduce the drying time of clothes, and to eliminate the need for using fabric softener, I thought that I would like to give them a try. I found some for sale at the store where I work and bought about six packages of them. I thought that my sisters and parents would like to give them a try as well, and since I got them for a very good price (thanks to the employee discount!) that it would be an inexpensive way to let other folks know that I care.

The dryer balls do seem to work the way that they are supposed to work. However, I am a little bit disappointed in how quickly they break and fall apart! And since I bought them at the store I’ve read some articles about how some dryer balls are made of a product that people really should be avoiding. Since then I’ve bought some of the dryer balls over the Internet that are supposed to be made of a safe product, and hopefully last longer. The biggest problem that I have with them now, though, is that when I empty the dryer, the dryer balls are sometimes hiding inside the clothing that I am taking out and plays hard-to-get. Overall, though, I plan to keep using them, I think that they are a good investment.

Ever since I moved to this area my sister has been trying to convince me to switch from cable television to direct tv satellite television. She kept telling me that she loved her
directtv and that it cost a lot less money than cable television did. But I had done my research when I had moved in here and found that satellite television only allowed a few television sets to be hooked up for the monthly rate, but that the cable television allowed unlimited hook-ups for the monthly rate. So I kept telling her that since I had so many televisions it was more economical to do the cable television bundle.

Well, that was all before the cable television service had to digitize all of their stations and charge the customers for the receiver boxes. Suddenly keeping cable television was more expensive than switching to the satellite bundles offered at dx3. At first we thought that only a couple of the channels were converting and we lost those channels for a couple of months. I really didn’t care since I didn’t watch much television anyway. But then one day in the middle of a television program the screen was scrambled and it was scrambled on all of the stations, on all of the televisions. A phone call to the cable television office revealed that we were going to have to pay a lot of extra money than before just to keep the same service we had. I asked for a discount and they refused. Now it was making financial sense to switch to a satellite television service. So I switched. I can’t afford to have all of the televisions hooked up like I did before, but my monthly bill is not any larger. When I finally did switch I told my sister that I finally gave in to her nagging and I had better not hear a single complaint from her about reception problems!

Thanks for the article from Jermaine Haynes

There is nothing more important to a new mom than the safety of her child. I remember when I brought my first baby home from the hospital. I wanted to just sit and stare at him all day and all night. I never wanted him out of my sight because I thought he was just so beautiful but also I was afraid of what might happen if I did let him out of my sight. I thought that if I could see him at all times then he would be safe. Eventually I got over this feeling a little more each day and now I can leave the room without worrying about him every moment I am gone. After we brought him home I decided that our house wasn’t safe enough. For my husband and me it was just fine but now that our new child was here everything needed to change. New deadbolts on the exterior doors, child safety everything, padding on the fireplace was installed even though our son wouldn’t be mobile for at least six more months. I also decided to get Home Security Systems installed to be sure our little bundle was safe in his crib even when I wasn’t watching him.

Today there was a lull in demands on my time at home, and I had the day off so I decided to get started on my income taxes. I use the H&R Block software to do my taxes, so it is relatively easy to do. I usually don’t get my taxes done until late March because I wait a very long time to make sure that all of the tax documents have arrived. Pretty sure they’ve all come in by now. I really didn’t think that I would get all the way through the program, but I did it. Took me all day, but I did it. Turns out I can’t e-file this year, which bummed me out because I was hoping to get my refund quickly. Oh well, nothing I can do about it! At least I am getting a refund!

One of the rules of the store is “no cell phones allowed at work.” Every couple of days one of the managers will come back behind the counter and catch one of us using our cell phone and he will scold us that we are not supposed to have our cell phones with us. Whenever he does that I always reply that when the company provides us with cell phone lockers then that won’t be an issue anymore.

We are not supposed to bring our coats, or purses, or bags of any kind – not even lunch bags! But the company gives us no place to hang our coats or store our purses or bags or cell phones. This is the first place that I’ve ever worked that didn’t have at least small phone lockers in the back room for people to be able to put their wallet, keys, and phone in!

To be honest, the only time I use my cell phone at work is to call across town to the other store to see if they have an item in stock that a customer needs. And the other girls use their cell phones to look up work related subjects on the Internet. I think even if we had a cell phone storage locker system I don’t think we would use it. But we’re not going to tell the boss that. No, that will be our little secret. Shhhhh……

One of the things that can get quite aggravating at work is when several people want to use the inventory barcode scanners (they call them “guns”) at the same time. There are only two in the store, and inevitably one of them has a dead battery and needs to be plugged in to recharge for several hours. Personally I think the store should order at least two more of those things – the store is almost always in an uproar over the durn things!

This evening I had an appointment up in the Broadlands. I used my GPS to get there, and it took me along a short stretch of a toll road that cost me four dollars that I was not expecting to have to pay. I was quite annoyed because my GPS usually advises me at the begining of a trip that there will be toll charges and offering to take me a different route. Well, I wanted to save money as much as possible so on the way home when I directed the GPS to take me home I directed it to avoide the toll road (this time it advised me that a toll road was part of the route.) Anyway I was taken down a lot of winding country roads that were very narrow, and I started to wonder if maybe a hacker had gotten onto the satellites and having a good time getting me lost! Eventually I ended up on a main road that I recognized and I made my way home, none the worse for wear.

Staples had a telephone system for sale last week for half price. The phone system is a cordless one, with five handsets. Since the older system was no longer being reliable, cutting off in the middle of a call for no apparent reason, I decided to go ahead and buy the one that was on sale. The old set (which I really liked) was made by Panasonic. The new set is made by Uniden.

To be perfectly honest, I like the Panasonic better. I like the feature where the call waiting announces who is calling. The Uniden does not do that. The Panasonic handsets fit nicely on my shoulder if I have to prop the phone between my ear and shoulder. The Uniden just slides right off of my shoulder. I REALLY don’t like that – I like being able to talk with my hands free. And the Panasonic has an intercom feature; the Uniden does not. I wish my Panasonic phones worked better!

Did you ever wonder how it works out that when you use a search engine to find a product or service, how the order of presentation is determined? Well, it turns out there is a whole behind the scenes process called Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that determines that. And there is a big money business behind that process!

A business that wants to be one of the top companies listed for a search like that certainly has its work cut out for it! Some of the most technologically savvy businesses would be quick to obtain guaranteed seo services with a company whose sole business is making sure that their client’s web page is near the top of the search. Doing that maximizes the efficiency of the effort; hiring a professional that guarantees results seems to me to be a no-brainer. Why waste valuable time re-inventing the wheel?
