Thanks to Janie Pfeister for the guest post!

With the price of gasoline still rising, we’ve decided to abandon our plans to drive to Myrtle Beach this summer and stay closer to home.  We’ll be setting our home security columbiafalls alarm system and taking day trips to local pools and amusement parks.  Going to local ice cream parlors and playing miniature golf and indoor skating rinks.

With the money we save we’ll buy a sports package deal from www.LocalTV-Satellite.com and hold some neighborhood tailgate parties in our own cul-de-sac and then watch the games on our wide screen HDTV.  We’ll hold a luau by the pool and watch Hawaii Five O. Who says a staycation has to be boring?

My sister lives in Middle Tennessee. If you have ever been to Nashville, I bet you couldn’t help but notice all the rocks and hills of the area. There is so much rock that most houses do not have a basement unless they are on a steep hill. That also means that very few homes have in ground swimming pools – they can’t dig down deep enough to put them in the ground. But there are a lot of homes with very nice above ground pools.

The above ground pools require pool liners, which is not a big problem. In fact, they are a very good way to make a pool water tight. It’s not like you can make a pool like a wooden barrel. You need a liner to keep the water from leaking. After all, who wants to go out for a swim and find out that their pool has leaked all those hundreds of precious gallons of water down the hill?

Smart homeowners don’t skimp on the quality of their pool liners. When something is such an important component of your daily life, you want to ge the best that you can afford. There are some things that are cheap and disposable. But the important things require a bigger investment of your money or your time.

One of the mainstays of my dating life with my first boyfriend was to go to the Putt-Putt miniature golf course.  There was one within reasonable walking distance from our house, and there was an ice cream place a couple of blocks from there.  We often dated with my sister and her date, and we always had a really good time.  I remember that we had a great time trying to knock out each other’s golf balls away from the hole while trying to get a hole-in-one ourselves.

I always dreaded the last hole; you couldn’t get the ball back, and the game was over.  We had to turn in our golf clubs and start thinking about getting home before curfew.  We’d stop by the ice cream parlor to grab a large ice cream cone and eat it while walking home.  Those were some of the best days of my youth.  I miss them.

I’ve noticed that every time my hubby and I go to one of his favorite places (the motorcycle shop, where else?) he goes and takes a look at their selection of Motorcycle Helmets. He keeps asking me which one of the women’s HJC Helmets I like the best. I’m sure that he wants to buy one for me, so I’ll go riding with him.

Ever since he took me for a ride on his jet ski ten years ago (and dumped me immediately) I’ve refused to even think about riding with him on his Harley. I just am not interested in obtaining road rash, thank you very much. I used to have my own license for driving a motorcycle, but I’ve never really enjoyed on the back of a bike, and I’m really much too busy to have my own bike at this point in my life. So I’m perfectly happy to let him take his bike for a putt anytime he wants to, I’ll just stay home and enjoy the peace and quiet of having the house to myself for a while.

Because I grew up in a family where sports was emphasized so heavily, it was hard to move to a small town in Missouri where there are few professional teams to go see. The closest place to see any games is Kansas City to see the Chiefs play football or the Royals play baseball, but this is still about a three hour drive. That’s why I was so excited to spend several months in Chicago. Though I was there for business, I still made sure to schedule plenty of time to watch the Bulls play.

Since I was staying with one of my best friends from college while I was there, we would go to games together. To cut costs on food at the game, we would usually grab a pizza to eat at home before we left. Then, we would set the alarm systems and head on over to the United Center.

I loved being back in the atmosphere of professional sports, as seeing NBA games is something I’ve really missed the past few years. The NBA crowd is unlike any other group of sports fans — and Bulls fans are especially fierce. There is no excuse here for missed shots or bad calls. The whole stadium fills up with cheer and boos as everyone literally sits on the edge of their seats.
