There has been a lot of publicity lately about how many things that the Americans are buying for Christmas presents have been made in China. As much as we appreciate the fact that these things are inexpensive to buy, ultimately this is a bad thing for the American economy because supporting these Chinese manufacturers costs American workers their jobs. It is a catch-22.

I know that I have been trying to buy American made goods for Christmas presents, but it is harder than it sounds. Yesterday I went shopping for gifts and every single thing that I picked up to buy was made in a foreign country. This scares me; we need the jobs here in the USA. Without the jobs we won’t have the money to buy the products!

I can remember when every one thought that restroom hand dryers were a wonderful convenience. As of a young child I can remember how much I liked the feeling of the warm air blowing out of the electric hand dryers. They were hyped up as being sanitary and good for the environment because using them reduced the use of the cloth and paper towels. I can understand how one would think that using these machines would do that.

That’s why I was so surprised when I saw on the today show on television a news story about how they actually could spread germs if the restroom floors are dirty. Apparantly the intake of air can be unsanitary. Ever since I saw that story I have avoided using them. Now that I think about it there is probably a market for some type of germ killing filter to be attached to these dryers!

My heart goes out to all of the friends and families of the victims of the massive attack on humanity this past week. I agree that it was terrorism, but not the kind of terrorism that today’s society has come to expect. I was not very happy when I heard on the television that the suspect, if found guilty, could get out of jail in what, 15 years or so? Or was it 20 or 21? I can’t remember, but I sure hope that he is given the maximum penalty for each life that he took and that the sentences are run consecutively so that he never sees the light of day again.

I wonder if the other inmates in prison will accept him, shun him, beat him up, or kill him. I wonder if he will be kept in solitary confinement. I am not one to condone something like the death penalty, but this case sure would tempt me hard to condone it! This was just plain evil.

Today at work we learned that our sister store across town will be closing next month because they are not meeting the mandatory sales quota for the company.  Our store does not have any openings to be filled for those employees to transfer over, so they will either have to travel a long distance to keep their low paying jobs or leave the company.  That is very sad (and scary) news.  Just a little bit over a year ago, that was the store that I worked in, and I really liked all of the people there.

What’s really crazy, though, is that their prescriptions will NOT be transferred to our store, the corporation will be selling them to one of our competitors!  I don’t think that makes any sense at all.  I think that they should transfer the prescriptions to our store and let at least part of their pharmacy staff come work in our store.

What do you think?

Good grief! Now I’ve noticed customers coming into the store and asking about where the alcohol swabs are. The pharmacist’s answer -they’ve been recalled! As usual I had not heard that (I don’t know why I’m the last one in the pharmacy to learn about these things – it makes me feel like I’m undervalued.)

And as usual, when I find out something is recalled and I ask why, I’m never given a straight answer, so I have to go home and Google it to find out for myself.

The swabs were recalled because they have a dangerous bacteria in them that has been linked to food poisoning and can cause people to be sick, and/or die. Why wasn’t that in the news anywhere?
