When we agreed to let my sister’s family move into the downstairs apartment, we really did not realize exactly how much plain old junk was going to come with them. We really did think and hope that a lot of their things would have been sorted through and sold, given away, or trashed. After all, when we moved here we spent a lot of time doing just that. That is the reason why we had enough room to create a small apartment downstairs.

Having made that apartment, our own storage space is now extremely limited, and I have to admit that I get frustrated when I go downstairs to get something out of storage that when I have to move a ton of someone else’s stuff out of the way to get to my stuff it can get annoying. None of us are in show business anymore, why am I tripping over an old microphone stand that has been bent up and is missing the base from it? I fear that my sister is a hoarder, and it is going to be a struggle to keep her hoard out of my space! At least all of her stuff is down in the basement on cement floors so I won’t have to worry about the floors rotting and giving way under all of her junk!

With the shop almost completed, my hubby and I have started to go to local networking meetings to let the local businessmen know that in a few weeks we’ll be open for business. He’d like to focus on working on turning classic cars into hot rods on the days that he feels good. Our neighbor George has already asked us if he can come and use the lift when he needs to perform a few rv repairs before his next camping trip. Sounds to me as if we are going to make a small fortune just renting out some lift time.

When I lived in New England, the town I lived in was a very rural area. Every house in town sported Classic Mailboxes mounted on a post in front of their houses. The mail was delivered by people who drove their own vehicles. The mail delivery person did not walk from house to house, the mail delivery person drove from house to house. Most of the mailboxes were old, rusty, and beat up from being hit by snow plows during the course of the long cold snowy winters.

So it was with significant interest when we moved down here, to a different rural area that did not have those same issues with snow plows to see a variety of styles and colors of Gaines Mailboxes and Keystone Mailboxes scattered randomly along the rural roadsides. I suspect that more people in New England would own nicer mailboxes like these if they weren’t always thinking about the snowplow wiping out their investment!

Today I had the opportunity to go to a meeting in a town that I have not been to since 1971. The last time I was there I was going to visit a cousin that lived there. At the time, it was all farm land – just trees and wide open fields. Well, I found it very interesting that everywhere I looked was highly developed city landscape; high rise buildings, shopping malls, town house condominiums.

I wonder if that is what is going to happen to the town I live in now; in forty years will it be a city, too? There are more cows than people here, and not a single retail store or gas station or traffic light. How quickly will progress march into this farm town?

My sister and brother-in-law decided to finally build a new garage in their back yard. Ever since they moved into their house five years ago my brother-in-law has been dreaming and scheming to get it built. Last month they invited the entire family over to dinner and I noticed that all of the men were gathered together, talking about the building. They were looking at some brochures and discussing all of the different options available. One of the garages that they were talking about checking out is Future Steel Buildings.

My father said that one of his neighbors put up one of the Future Steel Buildings a while ago, and suggested that they go over and take a look at it and talk with the neighbor to see what his thoughts are about it now that he has had it a while. That’s a good idea, don’t you agree?

When my niece decided to cause so much trouble at home that her parents had to ask her to move out on her own, she thought it would be easy to find affordable houses for rent that she and her boyfriend could move into. She is seven months pregnant and is spending all of her time packing up her things and making phone calls looking for a place to move into. I’ve advised her to try to patch things up with her parents, but her mind is made up to stick to her guns and move out. I hate to see bridges burnt like that.

I like the spray salad dressing that they have available. You can really control the amount of the dressing this way. There is nothing worse that putting way too much dressing on your salad and then it becomes a soggy mess. A nice find spray is perfect!

Thanks for the guest post Paul Germaine

Living in New England can be really hard on rural mailboxes. During the winter, snow plows often accidentally hit the mailbox which then falls over. When that happens, the post office won’t deliver the mail until the mailbox is put back in place. With a frozen ground, it is often difficult to set a new mailbox in place. So right before the winter freeze sets in my husband and I go over our plans for getting our mailbox plan ready.

I’ve been looking online at various whitehall mailboxes to see if they carry any mailboxes that might be snowplow resistant. I spent a long time looking at all of the different whitehall products that are available for sale online. When I go shopping at the local hardware stores, there are only a few different styles on display. Being able to see all of the different styles in the comfort of my own living room is a lot more comfortable than having to look through a catalog that is chained to the shelving unit at the store!

When Aunt Mary had her heating system expanded to include her newly finished basement, the technicians that ran the copper piping forgot something. I don’t know the details, all I know is that when Aunt Mary went downstairs to get some hamburger out of the freezer, her new carpet was squishing under her feet, and she was not happy. She called the HVAC company and they told her that they would pay for her to contact a carpet cleaning holly springs nc service and have them come out and wet-vac out all of the water and then steam clean it all. And they sent a team of supervisors out to assess the damage and to seal up those leaking pipes! That was an expensive mistake they made!

When I was driving home from class last weekend I ended up driving past an apartment complex that I used to live in back in the early 70′s. Memories came flooding back about the years that I lived there, and the various room mates that I had while living there. One of my most vivid memories of living there is about the time one of my sisters moved in with me for a couple of months while her estranged husband was living in some short stay apartments about five miles down the road.

Back then we worked it out that my sister would stay in the apartment and do the so-called “wifely” chores and I went to work to bring home the bacon. She was a good cook and a good housekeeper and we actually had a pretty good time while she was staying there. We were the same size so we wore each others clothes and shoes, and to be perfectly honest I was more than a little bit sad when she and her husband decided to try to work it out and they took an apartment about two miles away from my place. Seems like just yesterday. Where does the time go!?
