When I was married to my first husband, we went on a fantastic vacation with his grand parents. We flew first class from the East Coast to Hawaii. The trip was very long, but since we went first class we were very comfortable. That was the only vacation I’ve ever had where we were in the first class section of the airplane. I can’t imagine a trip that long in the coach section of a plane. As far as I’m concerned every flight that goes overseas like that should have ALL first class seats!

Anyway, what was so nice about the trip was that his grandparents had vacationed there many times before and they took us around the islands as our tour guides. They showed us the best local Restaurants and Coffee Shops, and we stayed in the best Hotels on the islands. We were so impressed at how friendly everybody seemed to be, and we wondered if it was a genuine friendliness or simply “part of the job.” I’d like to think that it was genuine friendliness, but that is something I’d definitely want more information on if we ever decided to move there (which is a huge fantasy of mine!) Living on a tropical island is definitely something I’d love to do!

Seems to me that a lot of my friends on Facebook have been posting photographs of the newest food craze since the cupcake – the cake-pops and the brownie-pops. I guess that these snacks are on the cutting edge of culinary cool! One of my sister-in-laws made a batch of cake-pops and gave them as Christmas gifts to the family this year.

I’m not completely sure, but it seems to me that they bake a cake (or brownies) then use a melon baller to scoop out balls of cake (or brownie) and then poke them with a skewer and drizzle icing over them. They are cute and tasty. Have you made any of them yourself?

Something is going on with my browsers that I don’t like. My Internet Explorer is acting up when I use Facebook; it won’t let me type in anything. And every time I switch from one URL to another a pop up ad window opens up telling me that I’ve won a contest and telling me to fill in the form. I’ve tried using my malware software but it says my computer is fine. Has IE changed so that this happens to everyone?

I’ve tried loading the Chrome browser because I heard that it runs faster than IE on the Windows application that I have, but I still get those stupid pop up windows. With Mozilla Firefox, however, those windows don’t pop up and it runs fine. I guess the best thing to do is to just stick with Firefox, but that makes me sad because I’ve used IE for such a long time that I was comfortable with it. I really did not want to switch to something else. Anyone else out there know what might be going on with IE?

He said that his friend Darren suggested we check out the bike racks at cracksandracks.com because they have a large selection there, and they offer free shipping. Well, I’m all about free shipping, but since I’ve recently become interested in buying things that are made in the USA, I think that before we order anything I might call their customer support telephone number and ask them if any of their products are made in the USA before I make any decisions about purchasing anything.

Being relatively new to the area, there are times when I find out that some kind of fun event is happening and I decide to go to it. I invite my kids and hubby to go with me, and they all refuse. So I go by myself; why should I stay home and sulk? I always enjoy myself, but I find myself thinking to myself that I really wish that the rest of my family had come with me because I know that they would have had fun. When I get home and tell them what a great time they missed they say that they are glad that I had a good time, but that is the extent of it. I wish I knew how to motivate them to come with me; what kind of life can they ever expect to have if they never leave the house?

My kids had the opportunity to visit London with their father several years ago. I was so excited for them, but jealous at the same time. My family’s roots are in London, and I still have relatives there that I would love to meet and visit. My fantasy trip to London would include staying in some historic London Apartments that are clean and safe but near the touristy attractions like Big Ben and the Tower of London.

I don’t even know enough about London to know if there ARE any short term rental London Apartments available near those types of places! So I would definitely be wanting some of my cousins to show us around and take us to their favorite local places that are NOT the usual tourist traps, but we’d want to see the famous tourist things as well. We’d probably have to stay there a couple of weeks to take it all in. Sadly, with the economy the way it is, and our personal financial struggles getting in the way, our trip to London may just always be an unfulfilled dream. Wouldn’t it be nice if our ship came in and it was the Queen Elizabeth II?

Instead of battling the big crowds at the malls yesterday I decided to take my guests to the Grey Ghost vineyards. They were having free wine tasting and live music for entertainment, and they have an interesting display of Christmas decorations made out of wine corks to look at. Their gift shop is really interesting, too. The employee that was performing the wine tasting server duties was very nice, and we bought some of the Adieu wine from her. The Adieu wine is my favorite. It is a white dessert wine that has no bite to it at all. The wine goes down so smooth, and it is so sweet. White chocolate candies are the perfect complement to go with that wine.

I’ve never tried cheesecake with the wine, but I think that would be awesome as well. Next time I go grocery shopping I think I’ll have to buy an individual slice of cheesecake to bring home and give that a try. I have to be really careful, though, I don’t want to gain any extra weight!

I’ve only been out of the United States twice in my life, and both times were to Canada. Back in the early 1980′s my hubby and I went to Old Quebec City for the Patriot’s Day weekend in April. Boy was some cold there, let me tell you what! We stayed in a quaint hotel for two nights and we toured the old city. If the weather had been warmer, I’m sure that we would have enjoyed it much more than we did. Fortunately for us, our credit cards were honored everywhere we went so we did not have to deal with any worries around the foreign currency exchange rates and procedures.

When Jason was living in The Netherlands two years ago I gave him one of my credit cards to use so that we would not have to deal with any form of international money transfer if he needed money. He did use it a couple of times, and I saw that there was a small surcharge on the credit card bill for the exchange rate, but it was all good; the convenience was well worth it. Sometimes I just wish that there was a common currency world-wide so we didn’t have to bother our “pretty little heads” over things like that. That sounds lazy, I know.
