One of the things that I don’t like about being a pharmacy technician is the fact that every years we have to take continuing education credit courses in order to renew our pharmacy technician license. Now you may think that is a good thing, having to continue or education, and normally I’d agree with you on that. But the sad fact is that we are not allowed to utilize that education in our jobs, the company does not give us company time to take the courses (so we have to take them at home on our own time) and the company does not even give us a raise in pay for having done the work. So in essence, I feel that it is a complete waste of time. What do you think?

We got a notice in the mail that there was a recall on the cookies that we bought a couple of weeks ago, warning us that we might have purchased a contaminated tin of cookies. Although I was a little bit upset about the recall (since my hubby had already eaten all of the cookies!) I was impressed with the fact that the company used the information from the loyalty card usage to determine which customers bought the product so that they could be alerted to the recall! That is a very good reason to go ahead and sign up for company loyalty cards that I had not considered in the past!

When I was driving home from class last weekend I ended up driving past an apartment complex that I used to live in back in the early 70′s. Memories came flooding back about the years that I lived there, and the various room mates that I had while living there. One of my most vivid memories of living there is about the time one of my sisters moved in with me for a couple of months while her estranged husband was living in some short stay apartments about five miles down the road.

Back then we worked it out that my sister would stay in the apartment and do the so-called “wifely” chores and I went to work to bring home the bacon. She was a good cook and a good housekeeper and we actually had a pretty good time while she was staying there. We were the same size so we wore each others clothes and shoes, and to be perfectly honest I was more than a little bit sad when she and her husband decided to try to work it out and they took an apartment about two miles away from my place. Seems like just yesterday. Where does the time go!?

I love to use coupons to save money on things that I need to buy to keep the house running. In this tight economy, every penny counts more than ever before. I get the Sunday newspaper strictly to get the coupons, but I also go online to get coupons. Years ago I joined the Upromise website, to help raise money for my kids college educations. Seemed like an easy way to save up money for their college education, and I found that upromise online coupons also helped me to save money at some of the stores that I regularly shop at.

For example, through the Upromise website I can save with walmart coupons, and I shop at Wal-Mart several times each month. And there are a lot of online vendors that I can shop with that give me discounts and Upromise points if I sign onto their sites through thUpromise site. The biggest drawback that I’ve seen to this program was the fact that I needed to get lots of friends and relatives to sign up their loyalty cards so my kids would get credits for college and most of my friends and relatives were unwilling to participate. When that happened, it was rather a rude awakening to realize just how little these people actually cared. That was certainly food for thought!

My sister was talking to me about how there are always a lot of tax preparer jobs from January until April 15th every year. A friend of hers had taken an income tax course last year and landed a part time job preparing taxes for the local Liberty tax preparation service. She said that the extra income came in really handy, and that a lot of the work was software based and was mostly data input.

I’ve heard that some of those services hold classes of their own, to teach their employees how to prepare income taxes for their clients. I’m seriously going to think about checking out the possibility of doing that part time myself; I could use the extra money!
