The break room at work is in the back of the stock room.  It is small and dirty and has no temperature control.  So this time of year when I take my lunch break I have to wear my coat to try to keep warm.  Looking out the doorway while I’m on break I see some Duraflame paper fireplace logs and they make me daydream about being at home in front of my fireplace with the R. H. Peterson Real Fyre Gas Logs lit and me holding a nice hot cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on top.

Our fireplace has Ventless Gas Logs; they were there when we bought the house.  I had always wanted a fireplace with Gas Logs in it, and I thought this was a dream come true when we bought this house.  I do wish, however, that we had the Peterson gas logs that you can turn on with the flick of a switch instead of having to fool with pushing a pilot light ignition button repeatedly.  That can get frustrating!  And if I’d had my druthers we’d have Vented Gas Logs; not having the vent sometimes makes my eyes water.  Regardless, I’m glad for what we have because it is a lot more than I used to have in the previous house!  And when we lose electricity due to bad weather, our fireplace can provide light and heat, which makes waiting out the power outage a lot less difficult!

This afternoon an elderly lady came to the counter and asked for some ice to put on her head. She said she had just fallen down in the bathroom and hit her head. Naturally I immediately notified the pharmacies, who then went to help her while I held down the fort. Long story short, we did get her an ice pack and called an ambulance for her. The hospital is only a couple of blocks away.

Seems the woman had tripped over her own feet going into the ladies room and fell on the floor, hitting her head. She didn’t want to go to the hospital but the ambulance crew convinced her to go and get checked out. I hope she’s OK!

When we first became interested in opening our own IRA Accounts we also realized that it would be a good idea to learn a little bit about Stock Trading so we didn’t come across as complete idiots to the account managers.

I find that I prefer Online Trading most of the time because I can take the time to research things and not feel the pressure to make an immediate decision about doing anything. I’ve noticed that I work best when I get the chance to read something and sleep on it rather than listen to someone talk about my options and the pros and cons of things. I don’t know, maybe I have a form of ADHD!

This morning one of our newer customers came into the pharmacy to drop off some prescriptions for her mother. I could tell that she was very upset and I asked her if she was OK. She started to cry and told me that her father was dying from cancer and only had a couple of weeks left to live. She started to tell me that she was very close to her father and that her mother had advanced Alzheimer’s disease and once her father was gone it was going to be up to her to care for her mother.

I told her to wait right there; I’d be right back. I quickly walked around the counter to her side and opened out my arms as I walked to her. She saw that I was coming to give her a hug and she reached her arms to me too. I hugged her and she wept while I was holding her. I kept telling her I was so sorry and that I understood what she was going through. I stayed out there and kept my hands on her arms for several minutes while she talked with me, hugging her a few times when she broke down again. I knew people were watching, but I knew that what I was doing was the right thing to do. The woman needed someone to comfort her, and that’s what I was doing for her. I saw one lady watching us with tears in her eyes and I asked her if she needed a hug too. She declined.

A few hours later when she came back to pick up her prescriptions she happened to be there the same time as one of my favorite regular customers, who was waiting in line with her son and they both overheard us talking (this time with the counter between us) and she started to tear up again. The lady who was waiting in line asked her if she needed a hug, and I told her yes, she needs a hug. Immediately the lady and her son started to hug her.

Today was a good day.

Last weekend my hubby told me that he needs a new pair of insulated waterproof timberland pro boots. I hoped he didn’t see me cringe when he told me that, it’s just that the last time he bought a pair of them they cost a pretty penny! And I’ve been trying to stretch and pinch all of my pennies lately!

So I told him to go shopping and buy himself a pair – after all they do last for a long time, and they seem to be the only brand that fit his feet comfortably.  I told him that while he was out shopping, to try to find some new jeans for our sons birthdays.  Our youngest size wants a new pair of Levis 514 skinny jeans while our oldest son wants a new pair of Levis 501.  I’m always on the lookout for pants that they can wear because they are both very slender and tall – it is difficult to find pants in their sizes.
