I have never been one to go out and party on New Year’s eve. I’m content to stay at home, off of the roads that are filled with people that do go out and party like it’s 1999. I’ll find something good to watch on the TV, making sure that a few minutes before midnight I switch on to the NBC station and watch the ball drop and off to sleepy time I go.

Happy New Year!

One of my favorite things about Christmas time is the wonderful lights that are put up everywhere. No matter where you are driving, you are sure to stumble upon a home that is splashed with the beautiful lights. One of my favorite places to go has always been Stone Mountain. A Stone Mountain Christmas has been something that my family and I have gone to every year for as long as I can remember. Every building in the park in covered with different colored lights making a fantastic scene. Also, they have a train ride through the mountain where they put lights along the route making for a unique experience that is always exciting. Not only are the lights wonderful at Stone Mountain but they also put on several Christmas shows that get better every year. The great thing about A Stone Mountain Christmas is that there are activities for the entire family. I remember as a kid loving the rides and lights and my parents loved watching the shows. It was something that I still look forward to doing today. Every year that we go on this trip we are always sure to set the home Security systems before we head out. Even though Christmas time is a time of joy you must always keep safe and be prepared.

In the months that I’ve worked at this store, I’ve only seen a $2 bill used as payment once, and only seen the $1 gold coins used once. They are oddities in and of themselves – largely because I don’t see them very often in my general life, but also because there is no place in the cash register drawer for them. And even though we have been given counterfeit detection markers to use to check to see if the large denomination bills are suspect or not I’ve never seen one of the markers actually detect a suspicious bill. So it was really odd that today that all three things happened. Each transaction was a different customer, which makes it even odder (I think.)

Because I grew up in a family where sports was emphasized so heavily, it was hard to move to a small town in Missouri where there are few professional teams to go see. The closest place to see any games is Kansas City to see the Chiefs play football or the Royals play baseball, but this is still about a three hour drive. That’s why I was so excited to spend several months in Chicago. Though I was there for business, I still made sure to schedule plenty of time to watch the Bulls play.

Since I was staying with one of my best friends from college while I was there, we would go to games together. To cut costs on food at the game, we would usually grab a pizza to eat at home before we left. Then, we would set the alarm systems and head on over to the United Center.

I loved being back in the atmosphere of professional sports, as seeing NBA games is something I’ve really missed the past few years. The NBA crowd is unlike any other group of sports fans — and Bulls fans are especially fierce. There is no excuse here for missed shots or bad calls. The whole stadium fills up with cheer and boos as everyone literally sits on the edge of their seats.

Yesterday I asked my boss if he had watched the video yet that I gave to him for Christmas. He told me that he hadn’t yet. I asked him why not, since it was a great video for him to learn about Scrooge and it was a great video for him to watch with his baby daughter. He told me that he didn’t think she was old enough to watch something like that. What????? It’s the Muppets for crying out loud! Then he told me that he didn’t want her to watch cartoons. What???? It’s not a cartoon! Then he said that he didn’t think it would keep her attention because when she watches the movies HE likes (you know, action shoot-em-up films) that she doesn’t watch it for very long!

I have come to the conclusion that this child is in for a terrible childhood, and that her father is a sap. Very sad.
