Do I trust a man who walked in off the street with a business card who says he is a computer repair technician starting his own shop? He says that he works on personal computers, networks and telephone systems. He can do both installation and repair.

I took his business card and told him that we don’t have any immediate need for his services. Then I mentioned that I was in the market for an inexpensive laptop and asked if he had any suggestions. He says that he happens to have a few good used laptops that he bought from a company that went bankrupt and closed their business over the summer.

I wonder if I should trust him to deliver the laptop in good condition and take a chance? He only wants $200 for a used IBM Thinkpad. That is really cheap, which is what I was looking for, but then again – is it too good to be true?

When we first moved into this house I told my hubby that we needed to take the water-saver discs out of the two shower heads that were in the house.  We took them apart to remove the discs, and discovered that there were no water-saver discs in them!  We were cursed with low water pressure!  The water that came out of the shower heads was barely a trickle!  After many calls to plumbers, water filter companies, and even having the well inspected, we found out that the entire neighborhood has the same problem!

We have invested thousands of dollars in a new filter system and replaced the pressure tank, and although the water pressure has improved, I still find the showers to be unsatisfying.  So it was with great interest that I learned about the Fire Hydrant Spa shower head that is sold on the takeashower.com website.  That shower head is specially designed for low pressure situations.  I think I’ll put that on my wish list for a nice Christmas gift this year!

I am amazed at how many of our adult customers are buying medicines for ADHD lately. Tonight I had a customer who was filling a prescription for Adderall for herself, and she did not have insurance. My goodness, even with our discount cards that medicine costs an arm and a leg! We got to talking about how she has three kids and that they all have ADHD too. One of them is required by the schools to be medicated.

I think it is a crying shame that schools are requiring these kids to be medicated. I have a son with ADHD and I understand the frustrations of parenting a child with ADHD. I cannot even imagine how difficult it would be to have ADHD and try to raise a child with ADHD. One of the biggest problems with ADHD is trouble with being patient – and to parent a child with ADHD you need lots of patience!

I was encouraging this woman to find and join a support group for people and parents of people with ADHD. I hope she takes my advice!

I hate to be cold! So, naturally I scoffed when my brother asked me to join him on a trek to Nepal during the cold season. Then came the night I couldn’t sleep. I did what any good insomniac would do; I flipped on the tv from www.Direct.TV. The first program that came on was about a man who spent two weeks hiking in the mountainous terrain of Mount Everest. It was breathtaking, and seemed sort of a spiritual sign. I took this as an affirmation and decided I had to join my brother on his journey!

He was overjoyed and it took a full six weeks of researching what we should bring, and the connections that had to be made once we got there. We had to research guides, routes, and safety measures. There were times that I thought of giving up. One of those times was on the long flight. I was so happy that the airline provided an individual TV monitor to watch movies on demand.

What I found when I got there were warm, friendly people, with plenty of wide smiles and head nods (even though I’m pretty sure they didn’t understand a word I said.) The views and scenery were so far beyond what I saw on TV that night. It was in a word, spectacular!

The tenacity we had in planning paid off. Hiking any part of Mount Everest is nothing to take lightly. It was indeed a spiritual journey and one I will cherish forever because my brother passed away less than a year after this remarkable journey we made together. I’ll never be sorry that I went!

This is a shame, a real shame. How can the consumer trust a company that does secret recalls?
