Thanksgiving schedule

Since I only work part time I don’t get paid holidays, and I don’t get overtime or holiday pay.  So I find it annoying when I am scheduled to work on a holiday – I am paid straight time.  The full time employees would get paid double time if they worked a holiday!  I don’t think should be legal!  I think anyone who works on a holiday should get paid double time, don’t you?

I’m sure you realize that I am ranting about this because I am scheduled to work for Thanksgiving, but will only be getting straight pay for it!  I feel cheated.

Auto terminated

I was very upset to discover that since the store didn’t have any hours for me for a couple of weeks I was “auto-terminated” without any notice at all! I found out about it when I was called in to substitute for someone who called in sick. I went in and punched in and worked without any hitches at all. But when payday came, there was no check for me! When I asked my boss to check into it, he called the district headquarters and found out that I had been terminated!

So I had to go through the entire rehire process, getting drug tested, etc and fill out paperwork and such. It was a real drag – it took two weeks! And during those two weeks I had to turn down several hundred dollars worth of assignments because I was not allowed to work until the rehire process was finished! What a pain in the neck that was! I hope that never happens again!

I was asked to work yesterday at a store that I hadn’t worked before. It took an hour to drive there, so I left the house pretty early. I really wanted to dress in an awesome costume, but reasoned that the smock that I have to wear to work would cover up the best parts of the costume, so I just wore a blue shirt and khaki pants and told everyone that I was dressed up like a Wal-Mart employee! And I wasn’t sure how many other employees would dress up at that pharmacy, so I wanted to go “low key.”

Well, that did get a few chuckles. There was a really great costume worn by one of the ladies that worked on the floor of the store – she dressed up like Cleopatra! I told her that I thought it was wonderful! During the course of the day there were a lot of customers that came in dressed in costume – most of them were vampires. One woman came dressed as Batwoman, and that was a great costume!

One guy came in that I wasn’t sure if he was in a costume, or if it was his regular attire! I was afraid to ask! He had pretty crazy buckwheat hair going on there!

One poor vampire guy came to the pharmacy counter to ask for a recommendation on how to reattach one of his vampire teeth that had fallen off! Had to feel sorry for the guy! He ended up buying some denture adhesive! I wonder if it worked, and I wonder if he managed to get the tooth back off again if it DID work!
